ARTIST STATEMENT

For this project I wanted to create photos that would be meaningful to someone. I offered to photograph a good friend of mine who I thought might enjoy new photos of herself. It’s important to me that I capture the true beauty of someone, their inner beauty. I love candied shots of the in between moments and detail shots of hands and feet. The location for this photoshoot was Little Cottonwood Canyon Salt Lake City Utah. The mountains were gorgeous and the sunset was stunning. We were racing the sun and running out of light quickly when we got in the car and drove to a new patch of sunlight. That’s when we decided to get a little cheeky so to speak and Nat got undressed so we could capture more of her natural figure. Those photos were my favorite by far. No outfit, no posing, just laughing and trying to avoid stares from strangers that drove by and caught a glimpse. It was cute how shy and embarrassed Nat got when she thought people were watching us. I’m sure it was well worth it for her because she really loved how the photos turned out. I think I hit the nail on the head and we created something really special for her that will last for years, if not her life time! It’s an honor to create these images for Natalie and photograph in such a stunning location. I was inspired by a local SLC artist India Earl and we got a lot of our inspiration from witnessing her work.
